Hi folks,
I am a Canadian citizen who was down here working for a company on a TN visa. The company is folding, so they laid off most of their people. I was one of them, So, I went back to the "old country", and re-entered the US to take care of affairs and say goodbye to friends.
When I re-entered the US, the customs officer gave me a B1 visa. Now, my understanding is that these visas are good for 6 months. However, he said that I could only stay for several weeks (he even hand-wrote a date below the visa stamp). I can't find any info that states that they can reduce the length of time on a B1.
So, what is the duration of time that I can stay here? Do I get 6 month, or do I have to leave on that hand-written date?
Also, since I am unemployed, I was trying to get info on whether the SSO will allow me to collect unemployment as a foreign citizen.
Thanks.
