  • sponsoring visa to in-laws, need guidance

    Hi there,

I've been going through immihelp site and I must say, this is a very valuable service you're providing by launching a platform to look up the information and a forum to learn others' experiences... w/o this site, it would have been a lot of work on my part... now it is fairly easy.

    Here's some intro info:
    * My wife's pregnant with due date being on June 6th.
    * Her parents have a visa appt on Jun 6th... we have been trying since Feb and that's the date we could get and we didn't find any other free time till now!
    * Her parents don't have any unmarried children or businesses. They're retired but, they have several properties as assets.

Few questions that I believe you guys can help me with -

    * Can they state that, they are coming to USA to help their daughter through delivery & post-partum rehabilitation? or should they hide that fact and just say, "We're going to visit our daughter and son-in-law"? Also, can you help me with the thought process behind the answer you think is better.

    * They can't speak English... but, all the documents in their application e.g. thier own affidavits declaring the properties and obligations in India (or) my invitation letter to them (or) even DS-156 (or) Itinerary is in English... should every one of these documents also accompany corresponding native language (Telugu) version just so this question is not raised - "we agree that someone else prepared this document for you but, do you know what's in there and if it is correct to best of your knowledge?"

    Please advice?

    thanks for your help,
    -Srikanth

    1. As I have said million times before, tourist visa is for tourism, not for help with pregnancy. Consular officer will say that there are good facilities available in US and your in-laws are not needed for that.

    2. That's fine. You don't need native translation for every English document that is there.
