Visa interview for kids

My cousin wants to apply for visitors visa. His two sons are 15 years and 11 years. Their DS 160 form is filled online. My question is, do they have to appear for an interview or parents can just take their passports with them?

According to my experience at US embassy, each accompanying family memer has to appear for a personal interview irrespective of their age. Also, it is also a good idea to enquire about it from an authroized agent in your city that sends and receives all these visa applications on behalf of US embassy/Consulate.
