Does visa depend on passport expiry date?

Does US embassy grant visas for period beyond expiry of the passport?

Eg. If passport is expiring in 2008, is there any chance of getting 10 yr multiple visa? Or should passport be valid for that much period?

u won't face any problem regarding the visa duration and is not related to the expiry of the passport. i got a 10 years multiple but my passport expires on 2013.

My parents got their 10yr M visa stamp last month. My mom's passport expires in 2007. So..I don't think that should be a problem.
To my understanding, if passport expires then you can get it renewed and carry the passport with visa and the new passport when travelling
