12 months Air India open ticket

My parents are coming to US on June 24 and they got 12 months open ticket(AirIndia provides this 12 months ticket since 6 months open ticket is not available) To avoid penalty i don't want to fix the return date b'cos we are not sure about it(either 5 months or less)

Will this 12 months open ticket be a problem during immigration?

My parents came to US with a 12 month open tickets through Air India and are currenly here with me. They did not face any problems at port of entry at chicago. They got 6 month stay period.
