  • Friend's cancer treatment Melbourne Conslulate.

    Hello,
My friend's sister is getting her treatment of cancer in Washington Hospital Center. I would like to visit her as the conditions are pretty bad and I am a good friend to her sister. I am a current student in Melbourne Australia with my Visa valid till 2013.

But the problem is I cant go for more than 7 days as I have my studies as well. What should I do in this case? And for the purpose of visit I am going to tell him exactly what is and I wont have travel plans as I wont be going around visiting and having fun, I would just like to meet her and come back.

DO you think such short term is a problem?

Also, I am Indian, Can I apply here in Melbourne? I read all the sections already were answers were not to my specific condition. PLease help.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Jay

You must note that for US visitor visa , the visa officers have a presumption of immigrant intent which the applicant must overcome. More so in young students, that too overseas. If your purpose is not concrete, that presumption is not overcome and visa is denied.

In your case, if it was your immediate family , like a parent or a sibling, undergoing cancer treatment, the purpose to visit him/her would have made real sense. But a friend's sis
----a big no, the relation is not close enough. Agreed, she is your friend, but really, it just sounds frivolous , and it will be most likely denied.

I am sorry I sounded negative, but if you really must see her, I suggest you can present the purpose as a 7 day vacation with a friend /relative in US, without mentioning the patient. Present some vacation planning and you stand a much better chance.

Ah! as suspected. Such a disturbing situation.

Even if I show the travel plans for 7 days, would it be a problem? I meam yeah Of course I can present travel plans and everything. And I can buy return tickets as well just to make sure he knows I have no intents to stay.

Also I can show my university enrolment suggesting my entire study schedule and term dates. But in that case, do you they might ask why Am I going to vacations in the middle of my term?

Such a tough situation. Cruel World.

Yes, Going in the middle of term will raise questions. I suggest wait till vacation time or just leave it.

Thanks for all your replies. Such a great help.

Do you think its worth giving it a try? Like using the vacation scenario? With return tickets, fundung and travel plan available? Say as a 14 day backpacking tirp?
