  • Visitor visa returns after short period

My mother-in-law stayed here for 3.5 months and is leaving in January for a family event in India. She intends to come back after 30-35 days (end of february) and staying for another 5-6 months. Is there a risk that

    a) She could be denied entry at port of entry or

    b) Her entry in february is only granted for a short time (say , 30 days)

Is it safer to simply extend the stay by six months rather than visit and come back after a month?

    Thanks

When you return in a month after staying 3-4 months on a visitor status, it does not look like you are visiting US but more like visiting India. They can put her on a flight to India but more likely they will grant her a very short stay like a month if she can reason with them.
I suggest she rather NOT do this. If the event in India is important she should return to US after spending about 5-6 months in India.
