  • Single Parent Visa Issues

    Hi

I would like to know why the visa to Single parents are not issued at ease when compared to couples.
I have two cases of my friends who sponsored there Mom (Single, Widowm, Home makers) twice but were rejected with 214B.
I sponsored for mom and was rejected in Dec 2011. Now I am planning to get it applied through Self Sponsor herself.

    1. Should single parents sponsor themselves to avoid any rejections ?

    2. I do not see any post in the experience who comment stating they got there Mom's visa for a long time ? Is that usual that they dont prefer any Single parents applying for Visitor Visa ?

Please provide me some tips to avoid rejection this time. Appreciate if i can get some info on the single parent visa issue.

    Thank You.
    Sree.

Actually, they are looking for ties to home country to make sure the person will return after the visit. One spouse staying back while the other travels to US makes it easier for the visa officer to decide in that regard. Single parents have more difficulty proving ties if they are unemployed.

Self financing works only if you can show very good income / wealth of your own.

Tip; Single parents have a better chance if they can show some work ties like a small business or a regular job.

      Thank You for your reply.
Not sure what happens next time, but i will keep you posted on the results. Since my mom has been a home maker all the time, we'll keep the prayers on.

Is there any other thoughts apart from showing strong ties so that my mom's visa can be approved on.
I transferred all the savings I had for her, got the affidafit corrected, will get her self sponsor. Is that all that can be done.
Any inputs will make me grateful to you.

        Thanks.

Please post the first interview , whatever she can recall.

Also, how many children does she have in India, and how many in US, single or married
          and on what visas?

Does she have her own house in India and who does she live with in India?

The reason she was denied was she said 6 months stay. It is considered too long for a visitand the officer suspects she has intentions to stay long term and probably not return to India.. Plus her son in India being married meant she can stay away from him for long.

She should wait a couple of months before applying again. She should say 2 months stay is required. It does not mean she can only stay 2 months if granted. Stay is granted at entry airport and not determined by the visa duration.
They may also ask her why you said 6 months last time and 2 months this time . For this she should say a major function/commitment ( think of something genuine with dates, place etc.) has come up for which she must return after 2 months.

You may want to avoid the self - sponsorship route because that works usually when you have very good income or wealth in India.
They will ask her how she can afford to spend for a trip to US when she has been a housewife all her life and no husband.

I too have a similar situation. In the invitation letter to my Mom i mentioned duration of stay as 6 months. Shall I change it to 2 months?
