Application Process Centre for non-immigrant visa

Hi guys i am confused over this point that after filling the DS160 i made the payment at the hdfc bank and have got the no. required for interview but there is also a line on the confirmation page stating about a application process centre that i have to go there with my passport so when should i apply for an interview ? what is the significance of this centre ? can someone tell me the complete process ASAP
