  • Visitor visa for parents of US citizen

    Hi,

I am US citizen & want to apply for visitor visa for my parents. I have read on the forums that I should not sponsor my parents means they should self sponser. My father is retired from a semi govt job & he is not getting pension, we do have agriculture land. My mom is housewife. I am only brother & one elder sister(married in india).

I have heard that its hard to get visitor visa for parents of US citizens or Green card holders.
If someone have any knowledge ,please share or someone had same situation.

    Thanks for your time!

Yes, usually it is difficult due to automatic presumption of immigrant intent in such cases.
While visitor visa requires a non-immigrant intent.
More so for parents of USCs because immigrant visas to them are immeditately available .

If they really do not want to immigrate they could try once, a rare officer may get convinced. But again, they do not have any family ties in India ( your sis is married). So it will likely be a waste of effort and money.

Sometimes, the officer denying the visitor visa ,will himself tell the parents to go for the immigrant visa.

Thanks for the info. but there should be some way to convince the VO that we do not want to stay in US that's why we didn't apply immigrant visa.

One more question do someone have to pay fees everytime he/she go for visitor visa interview. If someone get rejection & he/she want to go again for interview?

      Thanks!

As peace999 already explained to you - because you are a citizen, there is the strong presumption they have immigrant intent. And under those conditions, no consular officer will grant them a visitor visa. In this situation, the chance of them getting a visitor visa is so low as to almost be non-existant.

And yes - the fee is the documentation processing fee. Each time they apply, they will have to pay the fee again.

Immediate relatives of a US citizen always have a visa available for them. Apply for an immigrant visa for your parents.

Visitor visa for parents of US citizen

It all depends how you fill DS-160 and the VO. I applied for my mom in 2009. She is a widow. VO asked only 4 questions and gave her a visa. The only thing is they have to be truthful and confide. Go ahead and apply.

congratulations! thats a little encouragement. I too have the same situation with the thread starter, i really want to bring my widow mom here in the US as tourist only. Because my mom does not want to live here permanently as. she wants to see my life here, want to see the beauty of America, the fresh air, she wants to go to costo, walmart and other big establishments here that not found in the Phils. She wants to eat healthy foods here etc .

May I know how did you file DS-160? how long did it take from submission to interview? Thanks in advance.
