My mother name as my name in my passport

I am a L1 visa holder here in US and wanted to get my parents here for the visit purpose ASAP.
The problem is my passport has my mothers name as my name. They mis printed it and I din't had that time to change that back when I was applying my visa.

I asked this before and immihelp suggested me to go to the Indian Consulate to change the name in the passport. But that should have two advertisements in the news papaers stating the name change. But my case is not changing the name of a person, it is changing the mis print name on my passport.
My mother is having a valid passport. So would that work as a proof of name? Still do I need to have the advertisements in the daily news papers?
Please help me in this regard.

Also, most of the people are suggesting me to not to go with the change of the name, as the american consulate at India will not keen into my passport details.
Is that true and can I take that chance?
