  • Sponsoring Visitor Visa B2

    Hi,
I want to sponsor US Visitor Visa(B-2) for my mother in India.
Her passport has her Maiden Name, whereas I have her Married Name listed as my mother's name in my passport and also in my birth certificate. My mother has already paid the Visa fee at HDFC bank and filled DS160 form using her maiden name as listed in her passport.

Now, for sending her the visa sponsor documents, should I used her Maiden name or Married name (as listed in my passport and birth certificate)?
What documents/steps are needed from my mother's side and my side to establish that my sponsorship documents are intended for her, which is needed because of the discrepancy in her name between her passport and mine?

    Please advice.

    Thanks

She needs to decide what name she wants to use after her marriage. And that is the name that should be used everywhere. She does not have to change her name after marriage, but then whatever she chooses is what goes everywhere.

I am assuming you were born after she got married. Were you born after she got her passport? Was her name put in your passport after she got her passport?

If she has decided to keep her maiden name in her passport, why is her married name used everywhere else? If she has decided to use her married name, why not the same in the passport too?

My mother's first passport was issued before my birth, and she used her maiden name in her passport and also in her subsequent passport renewals.

Couple of years back when I applied for my passport, I used my Mother's Married name for it.
At that time my mother already had her passport with her maiden name.
Now I want to sponsor her B2 visa, and that's when we noticed this discrepancy.
My birth affidavit was also prepared later, which also has my mother's married name.

Is it possible to use some affidavit to cover for this name discrepancy in order to prove that the name listed in my Mother's passport and her name in my passport refer to the same person?

      Please advise.
      Thanks

You can try with 'one and same person affidavit' but I am not sure whether that would work or not.
