Visitor visa for mother

Hi,
I want to invite my mother and father , but the problem is my mother's actual name is not in my passport. by mistake I put her nick name in my passport when I applied .... and i never got a chance to correct my passport. Now i am in US and can't change the passport as i dont have sufficient document (not sure if I have my birth certificate also). Is there any way to invite her?
Is it ok if my parents apply for self sponcered visitor visa, so in that case I dont need to provide any proof that she is my mother??

So, what is the possible way. any suggestion would be appreciated.
