  • Primary Occupation in DS-160?

I would like to take some help in filling DS-160 for my mother-in-law's Visitor Visa. She receives a really good amount of monthly pension, which we would like to mention in her DS-160 form, instead of not mentioning it. If we select - "Home Maker" as her occupation, there's no place where we can specify that details.

However, if we select "Not Employed" as the occupation - I see there's an option to provide these additional details. Can I specify her occupation as "Not Employed"? Also, what's difference between "HomeMaker" and "Not Employed"? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

She needs to put 'Home Maker' as the occupation.

@immihelp - Thanks for the clarity. However I still have this question in my mind. I hope you don't mind answering.

How different is "Not Employed" from being a "Home Maker"?

I was thinking that I would be taking a chance, with this one in particular; because if this goes wrong - everything else doesn't matter. VO would reject the application out right. However, this is the only place; where I can think of mentioning that she receives a decently good pension for her life time.

When I talked to someone, she mentioned that - I could mention my mother-in-law's occupation as Not Employed, because MIL never worked nor MIL is working currently. She also mentioned that - I shouldn't be confused, because I can mention MIL's occupation as not employed and mention that MIL gets pension of her husband who used to work as _____. Is it right?

I tried to find any standard guidelines, which give us a clarity on how to fill DS-160. The VFS guidelines doesn't tell if we can use "Not Employed" / "HomeMaker" in my mother-in-law's case. Rather, there are not any guidelines out there, which give us a clear Apple-Apple kind of comparision & some document guidelines.

I know every case is different; but there should be some kind of explanation for each of those occupations mentioned in Primary Occupation options. They are listed at in full - https://www.immihelp.com/us-visa-ds-...g-information/

I am still confused, and this is not my usual me.
