  • Separate appointments for my parents

    Hi,

Due to delay in my father's passport, I had to take separate appointments for my mother and father.
My mother has her appointment at Chennai consulate in June and father in August.
I am concerned what she has to answer if they ask why is father not joining her. Can she just tell he has an appointment in Aug. or he is busy? I was thinking they might cross question on separate appointments.

Has anyone came across this situation? Please let me know your experience.

    Thanks,
    Lakshmi

Just say what you wrote here 'His appointment is in August because of delay in passport'.

      Thanks!
Hope separate appointment won't cause any problems. Please let me know if she has to prepare for any cross question.

      Thanks,
      Latha

Well, it is all subjective. It is difficult to say whether there will be any problem or not.

Separate appointments for parents - The solution

          Hi,

          On the DS-156 application (Item#34).

          34. Names and Relationships of Persons Traveling With You

That should take care of getting them in together for 1 appointment.

Keep a NEW filled in DS156 application handy with Item#34 filled-up.

Step-1 => If application already submitted call up consulate and make the change or re-fax the application.
Step-2 => If Step-1 didn't work, On interview day request the consular officer if name can be added and tell person is waiting outside. Be prepared to answer the need for the addition or change like you didn't foresee getting your father's passport on time and that your mom needs to be escorted by your father. You can also write a letter addressing it to "The Consulate Officer" and tell your mom to give it to the consular officer.

          Best of luck!!!
