  • self sponsor visa

Hi, I'm 27 yrs old and I'm planning to visit USA for the first time. I'm planning for a self sponsored visit and will be staying there for a month at a family friend's place. However, I have few questions related to it.

    1. How much minimum funds should I show for a self sponsored visit?
    2. What documents my friend has to send apart from invitation letter?
    3. Will it be easier if I get a sponsorship from my friend?

They ask you about income. They do not look at bank balances.

In your case, I would advise you not to go with 'visiting a friend'. For a young, single ( I assume) person
, without a concrete purpose, you would be suspect not to return.

1.Are you single or married? ANy children?
2.What do you do? student? Job? Business?
    3. Do you have strong income ?
    4. Have you ever been to any foreign countries?

1.Are you single or married? ANy children? Single
2.What do you do? student? Job? Business? Job. S/w engg
      3. Do you have strong income ? Decent enough
      4. Have you ever been to any foreign countries? No

And what reason would you suggest if you think 'visiting a friend' is not ideal? I'm anyway carrying documents from my employer showing details about my job, income and vacation period.

        What is your actual purpose?

It can't be visiting a friend, because no one goes 14000
        miles to do just that.
If you are showing sightseeing US with your friend, that won't work. Because they will ask , you have never been to any other country why suddenly US?

If you were visiting a close relative like a brother/sis /parent , it would have made sense.

Your best bet to get a B1/B2 in the current situation is if your company sends you on a business visit.

yes I understand what you say. I've got my cousins too in the US, and where I'm planning to stay is a close family friend and not a direct relative. (Almost like second cousin) I'm planning to visit all my cousins within 2-3 weeks of my stay there and do sight seeing too. I wanted to know if I'm sponsoring myself, do I just need an invitation letter or do they also have to send an affidavit because I will be staying in their house?
