  • Does the US only issue 6 month B2 Duration Visas? *URGENT*

    Hi all,

My parent's in law just passed their Visa interview, however when the interview officer asked them for their duration of stay, they stated less than 6 months. The interview officer then asked for a definitive time and they stated 3 months...

We had planned 6 months worth of trips for them in the US while they visit us, and I doubt they knew that with working full time and such, I can't take off for 3 months just to travel with them...

My main question is: Can the Interview Officer issue a 3 month duration visa or even worse, less than 3 month duration visa? Or do B2's only come in 6 month max duration stays... with a 1 year validity. They interviewed in China and are Chinese citizens.

Or does it all depend on the customs officer who stamps their I-94?

Thank you in advance for your help.

The date stamped by the CBP officer on the I-94 determines the stay.
Visa is for admission only. Once you are inside US, I-94 determines your status not the visa.
Even if your visa expires and your I-94 is good while in US, you are fine.
