How many months of Bank statement ?

Hi,

I read that we need to give bank statements for 2 months. But one of my friend said that for his parent's visitor visa he had to give 6 months statement.

Can someone please clarify, do we really need 6 months statement. I am here in the US for the past three months. I am planning to bring my mother and sister-in-law from India.

just send 2 or 3 months.

Does not hurt to send 6 months if someone has.
