  • Visitor Visa for Parents-in-law

    HI..

I am a greencard holder and we wanted to process visitor visa for my parents.
I have changed my surname to that of my husbands surname in US, in Greencard, drivers licence etc.
But I have not yet changed in my Indian passport.
Is it okay to keep the maiden surname in Indian passport while processing the visitor visa for my parents?
Or I need to change it to married surname before proceeding further?
I am not working in US and my husband has to sponsor my parents.. will this be a problem?
Please share your thoughts on this.

    Thanks..

The name issue is not a big thing. You do not need to change the name. If asked at the interview, this thing can be readily explained by your parents.
But do send a proof that relates you to your husband since he is sponsoring ( he can sponsor).

Focus at the interview; your parents' ties to India.

Are unmarried children in India considered as ties enough to go back to India?
What kind of other ties we need to concentrate on highlighting?

Actually the applicant can't do any highlighting.
Ties are assessed from the applicant's situation as it is.

Mainly the ties assessed are family, work and financial.
Yes, presence of children in india is an important + factor.
If your father is working in a stable permanent job, it is another + factor.
If they have very strong family income , it is another +. (should self finance in this case).

The surname does not matter much as you are not the sponsor but if you have an access to a notary, try getting an affidavit that says it is one and the same person - just to be on the safer side.
It is definitely not a problem that you are not working and that your husband gets to sponsor for his in-laws. It is a common type of sponsorship for Indian applicants.
peace999's answer is perfect regarding ties back to home country.
