  • Visitor visa for mom

    Hi,

I am in US since 2009 on dependent visa. My husband is on h1 visa.
My mom wants to visit us. She is a widow and a homemaker. My brother who works in Riyadh wants to sponser her visa. my mom lives with my younger unmarried sister. My brother is unmarried too.

I hv not been able to find a similar situation in the forum.. where the visa is neither self sponser nor sponsered by the us relative.

will this pose a problem or will it show strong india ties.?

Or shud my husband sponser her visa?

any info will be of great help .

    thanks.

First of all, sponsorship is secondary.

    Foremost are ties to India.
And homemaker widows, it is just very difficult.
Because they neither have spousal nor job ties.
Two of her children are living abroad so she is likely to migrate out of India.
Son sponsoring from Saudi is also a negative because it shows she can't afford the trip and does not have the financial ties to India.

I do not wish to dishearten you but there are several posts of widows being denied repeatedly.
If she could show a very strong financial base in India and self fund the trip, she could stand a chance.
If she does not have that financial base, and if she still wishes to apply, let your husband sponsor.

    Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response.

My mom has FD, bank balance, post office savings of abot 5 lacs... and a house ( but thts on 'pagdi' system) so no owner papers. We are makin a financial statement from a CA.
Also she is a joint account holder with my brother and sister. Can she add those funds too or does she have to be a single account holder to show the funds?

She can show her documents and my brothers' as well.. but the VO shud ask for it.

Will it help if she applies through a tours agency like Thomas Cook or SOTC... And show primary purpose as tourism.

Can she avoid mentioning my name in the DS-160?

Your help will be really appreciated..

      THanks.

They mostly do not look at the documents, so your CA statement and bank balance won't be much use. Even if they do , 5 L is not enough. She does not even have property papers.

so, the chances are not so good.
Travel agency tours won't make any difference. The embassy is looking at your ties and not how you are traveling.

I think give it one more try, even if the chances are slim; she may get lucky.

Let your husband sponsor. It is very common for son-in-laws to successfully sponsor.
At the interview she can say that she has an unmarried daughter at home, to who she will have to return. Let her say it is her own house. ( can she show pagadi papers?
