  • Scanned documents sufficient?

    Hi,
    I'm planning to apply for visitor visa for my in laws. I'm on H1 and my wife is on H4. I would like to know if scanned copies of documents such as employment letter, bank statements, birth certificate are sufficient or are do I have to send the originals to India?
    Thanks.

    Depends on the document. If the employment letter is specifically obtained in support of your sponsoring of your in-laws, then send the original. If that is your offer letter, then copy it will have to be.

    Bank Statements --> Usually they ask for them to be attested by the bank and you can send printouts.
    Birth Certificate --> Copy
    Pay stubs --> copies
    Tax returns --> copies
    Your invitation letter addressed to your in-laws --> Original
    Your letter to the consulate --> Original
