  • Name change and US visa

    Hi,
My father has ten year us visitor visa, but part of his last name or surname is mispelt as "vu" instead of "voo"
we are trying to get this rectified and the procedure we were told is to have newspaper ad and affidavit of name change and other paperwork he shall receive new passport.

Could someone please inform is this right procedure and what happens to his US visitors visa on the previous Indian passport which is valid till 2015
does he need to reapply for the visa with new passport or can he still travel with visa on the old passport and accompanying the new passport,
will he still hold the old passport after the name change?
does he need to carry any other documents while traveling if he is allowed to travel with two passports.
if he needs to get the new passport stamped is there a procedure?

Could someone please answer the queries, as we are stuck as he needs to travel pretty soon, actually he traveled before to US in 2005 with this same visa and we want to do the right thing.

    Thanks
    Regards
    VAV

    Hello VAV,

My mother's firstname had a similar issue(one character was extra in old PP) and we had it corrected in the new passport last year. We are planning to bring her here this year and when booking the tickets I realized that there is this discrepancy in the firstname in the visa and the new passport.

It is very similar to your father's surname problem. Were you able to sort it out ? Has your father traveled to the US yet ? It will be of great help to know how you got around this.

    Thanks,
    Indhu.
