  • Question on Visitor visa for my brother-in-law and his spouse

I would like to invite my brother in law and his spouse to the US for a short visit to come and visit our family for 2-3 weeks. We are expecting a baby and my in-laws are here as well.

    My question is :
    a. Should I sponsor their visa or can they apply for a visitor visa without requiring my sponsorship? They both are working and can support their trip and expenses here in the US.
    b. What are the chances of them getting a visa with or without my sponsorship? Is it better if I sponsor them?
Given that they are working – would you recommend that they show any additional docs to demonstrate their intent of returning back to India? If yes, please can you provide some guidance on what docs should be produced?

It all depends on how much they are earning. Showing self-funding is always better since it shows the applicant's good financial ties to India . But one must be earning good ( 20 L combined family income per yr should be safe for self funding) so the officer does not deny on the basis of "not enough funds".

They judge potential immigrants from one's situation ( job, income and family ties in India).
    not from any documents.

If they have stable permanent jobs with good income , they should have a good chance.

Please do not mention pregnancy at the interview.
