visa for 1 year. After 1 year reapply?

Hi,

My father got a 1 yr visa and mother 10yrs visa. Should my father apply for appointment, go to interview again with all papers, after 1 year to get visa? Could anyone please suggest what would be the procedure.

I heard that it is better if he uses his visa and it would improve his chances of getting visa again. Is that correct? For how long should he stay to improve the chances?

1. Yes, he needs to do everything all over again to get new visa after 1 year.

2. It is subjective whether visiting USA will improve the chances or not. It can work out either way. Therefore, no need to visit just for sake of visiting.
