B2 visa - 2nd try, income source

My parent visa was rejected once. We had shown my father as retired although he has about 30,000 or so of Rental Income/Investment Income. This time I want to put employment status as "other" and say "Rental Income/Investment Income". Would this be compared against what I said last time?

They had said last time that they are coming to US for the birth of their grandchild. Of course, they will not mention that this time. Other than this, does anyone have any experiences with getting a visa in the 2nd try?

The last attempt was in Dec 2011. It seemed to me that the main thing the counselor did not like was the fact that my letter mentioned my wife is expecting, and my parents made explicit mention of that as the reason to go. Other than that it was some regular questions, nothing that would make you think one way or the other. Is there a way to fax to the embassy the documents in advance - i.e.
proof of their assets/ties etc?

It does not work that way. You can't fax or send anything to the embassy for a visitor visa app.
Even at the interview, documents have a very secondary value. They base their decisions on verbal answers mainly..

If you actually want your parents in US for the baby , I am sorry it won't be possible.
They have it in their system , they also deny for baby care.

I think , they should re-apply maybe at the end of the year or early next year when the baby is a little older.

Investment /rental income does not mean he is not retired. Change status , If he actually starts doing some work even part time. Even then , it won't really matter , because they look at strong income ( 10L /yr) as strong financial ties to India.

By the way, do you have any siblings in India? That carries a lot of weight.

We are just having them to visit, not for care for the baby, they will prob be here for a month. I had put the status as retired last time we applied, I guess then I should just go with the same. I understand that the verbal carries more value, but just wanted to present the docs beforehand
so they understand the illiquid assets/ties to India.

do have a sibling in India, she applied with parents last time (got rejected) but she is not applying again. She is getting married in December, and I will make sure that my parents mention this in the interview as a reason to come back in a month.

YOu did not mention about your sister applying too in your original post. That also could be a major reason for the denial. THe whole family leaving with no family ties in INdia.
Also, parents going with single daughters make the officers presume they are going to get her married in US with your help.

I suggest you ask your dad if he remembers the interview and post it here .
Also, what is your visa status in US and do you have any bros/sis in US and on what visas?

thats a good point. I will ask them and see what they remember from the interview. I have a GC, and have no siblings here in the US..

The interview questions below (probably not in the order they were asked):
1. to father - what do you - retired
2. to mother, sister - what are salaries -
3. who is sponsoring - Son, but we will bear expenses
4. traveling outside india for first time - yes
5. why do you want to go - son/daughter in law just had baby
6. is son GC holder - yes

Reject, the interview took all of 5 minutes.
