  • Parents granted Vistor VISA in Mumbai on 3rd Attempt

I am very happy to report that my parents were granted a Visitor's VISA at the Mumbai Consulate earlier today on their 3rd attempt. The experiences from the last two attempts had left quite a bitter taste and we had waited for 2 years since then..

During our earlier two attempts, we had concentrated more on collecting documents and neglected the presentation aspect. This time around, I scoured this forum (Thanks a million immihelp.com for providing this wonderful service) and complied a set of questions and rehearsed them with my parents everyday for the past 2 weeks. By the time the interview date came around, my parents were quite confident and were well prepared.

The interviewing officer was a white female and had a hindi translator along. She asked the following questions:-
    1) Purpose of trip to the US
    2) How long are you planning on going ? - 2 months
    3) Why 2 months?
    4) Have you been outside India before?

She asked for the sponsorship letter and gave it back. Then she said that they have been granted the Visa and that they will get passports in a couple of days.

I just wanted to say - dont lose hope and work on the interview questions.. Good luck to you all.

At what point did you request a translator? At the consulate or before hand?

    Thanks

            Response to questions

            Why 2 months?
We mainly want to go to the US to attend my son's wedding. Once that is over and if we have time we will do some site-seeing. I am an online day-trader and spend about 4-5 hours daily managing my portfolio. Also, we are planning to develop a plot that we bought in __ recently. Therefore, I am fully engaged here in India and cant take off for too long.

But as you can see, the answer was very specific to our situation. I would encourage you to compile questions from this forum but come up with your own answers.. The consular officers can very easily pick up recycled answers..

            Good luck..
