  • Visa then or now for parent

    Hi ImmiHelp,

I'm currently having a Business VISA and will be planning to travel to US in couple of months. My comp may also apply for Intra-company VISA. I wanted to take by widow mother with me and she would stay for some months, visit some places, and come back home. I'm having two siblings who are located in the same city as we are. My questions is: can I apply for Tourist visa for her now; in which case i do not have anybody to provide me the invite letter, as I don't have any relatives who can invite my mom,
    or
should i wait; after reaching US can i apply for Tourist VISA to her. My intention is to get her VISA done before I travel so that, she can accompany me.
In either case, I will be sponsering her trip and stay in US. My wife would also not be able to travel with me because of her job engagements. And we have property owned by myself.

    Please advise.

On a B1, you cannot invite your mother, even when you are in US.
Because this is a visa for short business visits.
You can invite someone only when you are in US on a long term work /student/PR visa.

She can apply on her own saying that she wants to accompany her son on his business visit
for some sight seeing. But the problem here is , she is a widow and widows usually find it difficult to get visitor visas.

Once you are in US on an L1 , you can invite your mother after being in US for some time.
Again, the problem here will be her widow status. If she can show strong family ties in India like you said your siblings ( she must show that she is living with one of them and not alone), her chances will improve.
