B2 Visa interview city query

Hi,

my in-laws have Nagpur address in passport and we filled DS160 accordingly to Mumbai consulate.

Now they are travelling to Chennai for medical treatment and wish to appear for interview there as they don't have anyone in Mumbai and it is more painful with condition to submit docs 3 days in advance.

We emailed mumbai consulate email address with option to appear at Chennai and they mentioned that you can appear at any consulate even after correctly selecting residence state.

And I have seen contradictory information on this forum and immi Now my questions is for pros on this forum.. Have you seen challenges when people appear at different consulate. Can you point us to such case studies or help take correct decision.
