My parents are bringing some foodstuff- sweets,pickles from India.
On the customs form at port of entry- do they write 'yes' for the question 'are you bringing food,plants from india?'
One of my friends said to write 'no' but then if they open bag and see,they would be lying.

Is it ok to write' yes'?

Write YES and explain what the food items are to the officer when they go through cutoms clearance.
