Hi!
I am on an L1 visa and my visa is valid only until 2013 Sept, so i have invited my family for visiting USA, want them to vist US before my visa expires. This is the best season to See the US. My father (60 yrs) and younger sister (25 yrs) have applied for B2 visa. My father retired in may 2012 and sister is awaiting for her backlog result in MBA . Please advice, what are the likely questions for them.
Since my father could never get a 2 month vaccation with his job we thouight this is the best time for him, also sister had to clear her exams so we waited. She was suppose to finish her MBA by 2009, however she had a backlog and had to give several attemtps, so though she does not go to college she is still a student. My father will be providing his financial status docs (showing our house, property, FD, ect in India) and also they shall be showing our family ties. Only i and my wifte are in the US. Would it help us to get his and my sister's visa when he states that his mother (my granny) lives with him also sister, brothers and his daughters are in India staying not very far from us. He can carry a few family pics. Please advice if showing family ties, considering me being on L1 visa and showing fathers Indian financial status help them getting the visa?

No offence, but you should post on the forum before you take an appointment.

*What about your mother?
*Who is showing funding? You are your dad?
*What is your dad's income range from all sources ( <10L, 10-20L)?
*Can he show strong savings? 15L or more?
*Can he show some post-retirement work ties like
small home business or part time work in a private place?

* I have shown that i am funding their trip

* Since my father got retired just 15 days back, his current source of income is his provident fund and retirement fund. Until last month being a govt employee he was salaried worth Rs. 35,000 per month.

* Yes he can show saving + propery between 15L-18L or perhaps a bit more.

*Actually its just 15 days of his retirement so its too early for us to try for him as he too needs a short break. Infact we want him to have a nice leisure trip . He is planning to work as a teacher after returning India. However there are no supportive document that can be presented during interview.

*How about my sister? What are the likely Qst. for her? I have heard that its a bit difficult for bachelors to get visa.
They have applied for a family visa interview, showing family ties will she still have problem?

*I am here on L1 which is a non-immigrant visa (valid till next yr). This is an Intera company tranfer between my Indian employer Company and US based client. Since i am the sponsorer of this trip, can they emphasise of this fact that i am neithera green card holder nor a US citizen and will be returning back after my project. Will this help them to get visa?

*Will it help if i book thier reurnt tickets and they present it at the interview. Will the return ticket give an assurance that they will come back to India, or will it show thire overconfidence of getting visa?

Sorry about your mother.

Family , income and work ties are the most important criteria.

For your dad, Just the combination of a widower and retired is a big negative and a major deciding factor.
Plus your sister is coming too.
That means no family ties in India ( married sisters , extended family do not count) and no work ties for him.
*No explanations about granny, sisters, extended family, pics , sisters attempts
will carry any weight.
*Return tickets do not carry any weight. People who do not wish to come back , donot care about wasting the return part.
*Property , FDs are not looked at.

For your sister;
Young, single, not settled in any job , going for a casual visit. No ties to come back to.

So, the chances are not good. I am sorry I am being blunt.
But that is how it is. If you had posted before taking an appointment, I would have advised you
to wait , bring some change in your dad's life situation and then only apply for him and not your sister.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the points you highlighted. Now from here knowing the situation and genuiness of the purpose of visit, based on your past experience do you have any suggestions or even a minute small tip that can help their case get some weight?

I feel bad about painting a bleak picture for your family's visitor visa.
I also feel strongly that their criteria to judge potential immigrants are not fair.
So many parents , who actually do not wish to immigrate , are turned away
for being potential immigrants. More so widows and widowers , retirees who have the utmost emotional need to visit their kids in US.

You have taken an appointment , go ahead with it. If there is a denial, it is not the end of the road. Your dad is free to try again with some change in some life situation.
And your sis can apply again once she has a well paying job.
Just let them present the way things are with your sponsorship.
Just ask for a short stay of say 6 weeks. Reason ; your sis needs to come back
to take the rest of her tests/classes. She should take some proof of that from her college.
