  • US visa for siblings and parents

    Hi
I would like to invite my father and brother on a tourist visa to stay with me for some time. I live in the US with my husband and am on OPT period right now and have a part time job in hand.
Their visa have been rejected once because of my status as I was in the interim phase when they appeared for the interview; done with the graduation but OPT period not started by then. Since my husband sponsored their visa I didn’t pay attention to the fact that they will ask any questions about me but unfortunately they did. I am planning to apply for their visa again but before I do that I have a few questions and I would really appreciate if someone could share their experience and perspective on the same:
    • Since I am on OPT but since it’s part time and it’s not as stable as H1, do I wait for the full time job on OPT or postpone it until I get my H1?
    • My brother is unmarried, 28 years old and working in the non IT area, do they appear for the interview together or separately?
    • Last but not the least does my brother stand a chance to get the visa because as per my understanding after reading the online forums that younger siblings specially unmarried ones are hardly likely to get a visa.

Any ideas/suggestions/feedback will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

        Hi..

My parents and brother just appeared for visa interview at chennai consulate yesterday.
My parents got their visa but my brother didnt.
He is 28 years old, single too but hasnt finished his BE degree. He still didnt get the tourist visa.

I dont know if my case helps you in any way, but unless ur brother has strong ties like property, permanent job and with good bank balance, he shouldnt appear.
I knew the facts but i still wanted to give a try as we all wish it would work right?

I thought with his arrear exams pending, he would get the visa but the visa officer rejected his visa alone.
I scheduled in tamil, the american consular officer talked in tamil and there was no translator person separately. So my family had hard time in understanding his tamil. It would have helped if there was a translator. My brother could understand english but i kept visa in tamil for my parents sake.

Not sure if my case helps.. just some pointers.

        good luck.
