  • Visitor visa for widow mother

    Hello,

I'm planning to get visitor's visa for my widow mother. My husband is on H1B & will be sponsoring for the visa.I'm scared as I've read on this forum that it's difficult to get visa for widow mother.

My mother is 60 & stays with my elder brother. He is married & has a kid.My mom is LIC agent & is co-owner of a property with my brother. She has good bank balance & gets pension. Is her case strong because of all these factors?

My mom's parents are alive but they don't stay with my mom.Should I include details of my mom's parents in the affidavit? Will it help?

Also,I've visited her twice last year, does that make the case weak?My last visit was 6 months back.I've read somewhere that they consider your visit to home country while granting the visitor visa to your parents,is it true?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

Yes you are right, unfortunately many widows are denied visitor visa because the Visa officers arent convinced of strong ties to home country. Also , sometimes there is an underlying doubt in the minds of the VO that the widowed mother is going because the daughter/daughter-in-law is pregnant. They rarely see salary/property/pension documents. There is no harm trying though. In such cases if there is a decent income it is always best that the Mother self sponsors her trip or have your brother sponsor the trip if he has a strong income. This is my opinion not legal advice.

      Thanks for the reply raghvi,

Can you tell me what should be the minimum bank balance/income for self sponsoring the visa?My brother's income is 20+lacs/year & mom has pension+interest from investments around 20k/month+property.So do you think self sponsoring would increase the chances to get visa?

      Thanks again.

20 K per month income might not be sufficient if she self sponsors, they rarely see bank balances but no harm in keeping decent amount (5-10 lakhs) in her bank over last 3-6 months and have statement handy just in case. If your brother has 20+ Lac income/year and has IT papers to prove it, it certainly makes sense that he sponsors his mom's trip rather than get the Son-in-law to do so. This is my opinion not legal advice.

          Thanks again,

Can my brother show pay stubs/letter from his organisation stating his CTC of 20+ lacs/year?He works for a very good organisation & is on good post. Also he does not have good bank balance, though he has some investment in FDs,posts, shares & property. Is it sufficient or there has to be liquid cash in bank for the sponsorship?

          Regards,
