Does a person with vistor visa need to get a return airticket from india while coming to US or he can come with an open ticket? Can someone tell me the differences between botht types of tickets and whether we can reschedule our departure date with a confirmed ticket, if so what are the penalties...
With a visitor visa the only type of ticket you can get is a return ticket;
you cannot get a one-way ticket which students, workers or immigrants
can get.
Next; A return ticket can be a 4 month, 6 month or one year return ticket.
6 month and one year return tickets are slightly more expensive than
the 4 month ticket.
Next; Not all airlines issue 4,6 and one year tickets. Some issue 4mo, some
6 mo, some one year , some only 2 of the above. It all varies with the
airline.
Next; The return tickets may be open(return date not specified when booked)
or closed. Again it varies with the airline requirement. Some airlines
requiring a closed ticket charge a fee for change of return date in the US;
some offer the first change free.
Answer to your q; On a visitor visa you will need to get a return ticket
(4,6 or 1 yr depending on your choice) and open or closed(depending on
the airlines policies). Change of date penalties vary with airlines.
