  • Mom's visa Rejected twice, Approved 3rd time!!

After all the disappointment of not getting the approval last year, my mom got approved for her visitor visa this year...finally!! She is a widow. Last year she went twice in Feb and April and got rejected both times. My guess is that there was no need to go the second time as they say that nothing can change in 2 months time. In such cases, I think it's smarter to try after a wait (maybe a year). That's what my lawyer's paralegal also suggested, to wait 6 months after her 2 rejections last year.

In between she went to a pilgrimage trip to Jordan and Israel, don't know if that helped. Last 2 times my brother did the documentation without the help of immihelp.com. This time I did the documentation solely based on immihelp.com and it worked. Thank you immihelp.com I also preped her for the interview based on the tips from immihelp.com, some very good points.

All the best to everyone out there who is disappointed with multiple rejections. Wait and apply later (maybe next year).

      3rd Interview experience

Before the interview, some front counter personnel took all of my mom's documents and inspected them. Then they gave her the documents back, but not the passport. Later, they gave her the passport back. For a 10:30 - 10:45 interview, she was taken in for the interview only at 2:30pm. First they fingerprinted her. Then her interview started. She got out at 3pm. There were some 5 Consulars sitting in different rooms covered with a glass. She didn't have to use a mic to talk. Mom had a translator. The rooms were divided by translation preferences (1-Hindi translator, 2-Malayalam/Tamil translator, 3-English, no translator...something like that)

Consular (a seemingly young white American lady): Why do you want to go to the US?
Mom: I want to see the US with the help of my children. This year I went to Israel and Jordan with my church group. Next year I plan to go to Europe with my church group on a different trip.

Consular: Which place in Israel did you like the most?
Mom: I liked Israel...Bethlehem and Jerusalem the most.

Consular: Old Jerusalem or New Jerusalem?
Mom: Both. I also saw (mom explained the places she visited there)...

Consular: Have you got rejected previously?
      Mom: Yes, twice, last year.

      Consular: Why?
Mom: Because I used the wrong English, like for "Yes", I said "No", for "was", I said "is". So they misunderstood and rejected. (Mom had a Malayalee translator this time...yes I am from malluland)

Consular: (laughs) So you didn't have a translator the last 2 times?
Mom: No. I spoke in English.

Consular: What is your role in the church?
Mom: We have a small chapel. My husband was the secretary of the church. He built a nice church at that time.

Consular: Does the church give you money?
      Mom: No.

Consular: How does the church run, where does it get the money?
Mom: Everyone pitches in money every time, I put in my money.

Consular: How many children do you have?
      Mom: I have 4 boys.

      Consular: What do they do?
Mom: 2 of them are in US. One is in Kansas, the other in Chicago.

Consular: What about the other 2?
Mom: The other 2 are in Bangalore.

Consular: For which company do they work in Bangalore?
Mom: The eldest works for XYZ company and the third one works for ZYX company.

Consular: When did your husband pass away?
Mom: He passed away 1 3/4 years back, in Sep 2003.

      Consular: How do you live?
Mom: My husband left me real estate, fixed deposits, cash.

Consular: (asks for the US children's documents. I had sent mine (Chicago) and my brother's (Kansas) documents to mom. Reads and starts typing stuff. Consular comes across some document which mentions that mom has a fixed deposit of 15 lakhs.) Wow!! You have 15 lakhs?
      Mom: Yes.

Consular: Are both your children Green Card holders?
Mom: No. One is a Green card holder the other one is on H1. (I am a GC dude)

Consular: I am giving you the visa.
      Mom: Thank you very much.

We haven't got her visa yet. Hopefully it will be a 10 year multiple entry. Hope this script helps. I wrote this after my conversation with my mom.
