  • Visitor visa application at Mumbai

My parents are applying for visitor visa at Mumbai Consulate. I had few questions.
    1. Is there is quota for visitors visa?
    2. My parents were told by a travel agent in Mumbai that the Consulate is rejecting visitor visas as they are giving priority to student visas now...this does not sound right to me...Has anyone heard anything like this now?
    3. On the DS -156 form: For the question - How long do you intend to stay in US? Is it better to write 4-5 months or a shorter duration of 4-5 weeks? Does this answer make a big difference whether the visa will be issued/denied. I'm hoping that they get a multiple entry visa for 10 yrs.

    Thanks in advance..

    1.No quota.
    2. Not correct.
    3. Somebody has a story on this forum describing how his parents' visa was denied because they said they wanted to stay 6 months
and the consular said that was too long.
So, keep it short for the visa's sake (2-3 months seems fine) ; they will get a stay of 6 months at the port of entry, if they get the visa.

    best of luck
