Hello all,
My parents got their B2 visa approved on August 17th 2012. The interview was scheduled for 10.30 AM. They reached around 10AM and waited until the security called the 10.30 appointments.
* There was separate security clearance lines for men and women.
* Once cleared they were asked to go to a counter where they presented their passport and DS-160 form. My parents were asked to give finger prints and the passports ( both of them) were given back along with the DS-160 inside. They were then asked to go to another building.
* When they entered the building one lady at the entrance asked " which language ?". They replied " Malayalam". The lady told them to take a token and wait for the the token number to appear in one of the visa counters.
* My parents had an interpreter as my mother do not speak English. My father can speak, but they took the interpreter for my mother. Both of them went the counter when they were asked to.
* All the answers were given in Malayalam. Visa Officer spoke very softly and the interpreter asked the questions loud and clear to my parents.
* Parents : Good Morning
* VO : He just smiled as did the interpreter.
* VO : Are you working ?
* Father : Yes. I am working as a faculty member in TIME, teaching Botany.
* VO : Who is paying for your trip?
* Father : My Son.
* VO : What is he doing ?
* Father : He is working as a Design Engineer in ZZZ.
* VO : Where is your son ?
* Father : He is in New Hampshire.
* VO : How long are you planning to stay ?
* Father : 2 months
"""""" YOUR VISA IS APPROVED """"""".. You will receive your passport in a week. They did not ask a single question to my mother nor for any documents.
The advise i would give is to prepare well for the interview. My parents had all the documents ready nearly 3 weeks before travel. Each week I asked them questions to prepare them. They were very clear about what documents they are carrying and where they are in the folder. It is normal for parents to get confused with the forms and the documents. Give enough time for them to understand.
Good luck to all the sons and daughters longing to bring their parents for a visit. Take it easy and your parents will be here if you prepare them well.
- One happy son..
