  • How to sponsor an aupair/nanny

Our family has 2 small children (ages 4 and 6) and need help for them when they are not in school (starting this September) . It appears that only certain state dept designated agencies can sponsor au pairs officially (J1 visa) and these agencies charge $6,000 (not including nanny salary) to parents and provide almost no guarantees.

If we can find someone ourselves (there are TONS of websites with people who want to do this kind of work here), is there a way for us to sponsor someone ourselves?

    yes, you can sponsor yourself.

One of the requirement is to buy medical insurance for them. You can buy it online at https://www.insubuy.com/j1-visa-heal...ce/-insurance/

What type of visa for an au pair?

Thanks for quick reply. State Department says that we can't sponsor a J-1. What kind of visa should we sponsor?

        H2b.. Non-immigrant work visa for temporary/seasonal need.(available for
upto 1 yr but can be extended to 3 yrs)
that is the only non-immigrant visa I can think of . Please
consult with your attorney if it applies to nannies. Anyway
you will need an attorney to file for this visa as there are
        specific guidelines for eligibility.

You could file for a green card for a nanny under the EB-3 category
(other workers) but by the time it is (if it is) approved, your kids will
        be all grown up.

Hello....am in the same boat...looking to get a nanny from India. Wondering if you have made any headway with H2B visa and getting the person here.

          THanks

Do a web search; there is a site that lists agencies by country.
