Extension of Stay and Re-entry soon after.

Hi,

I am an Indian national currently in the United States attending interviews for my post graduation training. My present stay expires on January 26th (after 6 months). I have an interview recently scheduled on the 29th of January and possibly one in mid Feb. My question is - Should I apply for an extension of my port of entry or would it be better to go back and re-enter in 10 days (cannot leave till January 14th due to another interview)? And how would an extension affect my chances of securing a VISA in the next few months for a training program here? (J1 or H1)
Hoping that someone with experience in VISA related answers can help out. So far, have not found an assertive answer either way...

You are taking chances either way.

Al though, if you apply for an extension (do you have time?), you can legally stay in the country while it is being processed. Chances are it will take longer than the time you can stay in the country.
