b2 Visa dramas

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. My partner is currently on a J1 visa and I came over a few weeks ago on a b2 visa. I got held up at immigration in LA and they searched my bags and gave me a really hard time about why I was wanting to come over for 12 months. After 3 hours of interrogation they let me in but with only six months until I have to leave again.
Do I have any options to extend this? My family are coming over at christmas for a month and I will have to leave before that so i am incredibly upset.
Are there any procedures available to fight what happened to me at immigration and somehow get an extension?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Customs and Border Patrol will give every B visa entrant 6 months authorized period of stay, whether they say they want to be here for 6 days or 6 years.

You can file an extension request, and the sooner the better.

You are not really allowed to be here in the country to "live with your partner", so structure your request in a manner consistent with visitor intent.
