Mexico cruise when applied for I-94 extension

My parents are here from India on multiple entry visitors visa. Their I-94 for the present trip expires on Dec. 26. They have applied for an extension a couple of weeks ago.

We now plan to go on a 7-day a cruise to Mexico from Dec. 10 to Dec. 16th(port of departure and arrival: Los Angeles).

Do you expect any issue when returning to US since they have applied for the extension?

They cannot leave the country till the extension has been approved or the application is deemed abandoned.

My advice forget the cruise for now or reapply for extension once you get back
