leave US with the pending visa extension

We applied Visa extension for my parents (in CA) and hope to extend to Sep 10, 2007. Now USCIS asked the additional document for my parent's visa extension. The deadline for additional document to USCIS is Sep 18, 2007 which is later than the date we asked to extend.

My parents plan to leave USA in early September. Now I wonder what's a good time to send the additional document to USCIS.

One friend told me that his parents left US in the period of pending extension application, the visa extension application is rejected with reason that people has left US.

Is it general for this situation? any similar experience for that?

There is no such rule. I don't know on what basis your friend is saying.

You can send the documents any time before the deadline.

If they leave US before extension is approved or rejected, there is no effect on 10 year multiple entry visa as they would have never overstayed in the US.

Hi Casttree,
In any application for extension I-94, it is required the benefiicary (your parents) should be in US.
If pending decision, your parents leave the country, your extension application will not be valid and will be rejected by USCIS.
However, your parents will not be out of status.
