  • visitor visa turning into medical extension

My parents are visiting here on B1 visa, however their visa expires in first week of December. My mother needs a total knee replacement and I am trying to extend their visa on medical reasons. I have the papers from the doctors about her diagnosis done here in the US and also the funds to get the operation. The only question is the time frame. So, I am trying to extend their visa based on the medical report from the MDs and my proof of funds to do it, but I dont have a specific date from the hospital for the date of the surgery.

I am wondering what is the best way and what reason is the best to say for the extension of the visa. Also, they have been applied for the I-130 application which I got the receipt in October. They have no plans to stay here at the moment past the surgery and the follow up. They want to immigrate here later on their time and not this time with the visitor visa.

Could someone please advise me on what papers do I need, what is the best basis or reason to extend for their B1 tourist visa extension? I am having sleepless nights. I dont want to pass up on their chance to get the total knee replaced here in the US.

    Please help
    Thanks:

You will need to get an appointment for the Surgery and a letter from the doctor stating how long will the recovery be and how soon can she fly.

    You will need form I-539.
