    Our experience with visa extensions

I have filed for my aunts visa extension on Aug 10th. We got a receipt notice on Aug 20th. This is the last we have heard. There has been no update either by mail or online. Her I-94 expired on Nov 4th, 2007. She almost left a week before this but decided to stay after I called INS and was informed that she should stay until she hears a decision. If she gets a no answer she has 30 days to leave. She told me her 10 year visa will not be cancelled but she may be denied entry at the port of entry if she comes back too soon again-that is up to the immigration person who interviews her. We also went to an agency and they told us that in 99% of the cases they approve the stay unless you say you are here to work but is always comes at the last minute. In most cases you get a letter requesting answers to specific quesitions. We filed for a 6 month extenstion until May 4th, 2008 but she bought a ticket to go back on March 15th, 2008. If she does not get an answer by then, I can send her the papers after I recieve them to show that she applied for an extention and that she got it approved or denied and she keeps those papers to explain why she overstayed for next time she wants to come here.
We listed reasons for stay: spend time with family, spend Christmas with family for first time in 16 years, site-see and travel more.
Hope that helps in some way. I will update the tracker on when she gets an answer. We are the only ones from Poland so that should tell you which one she is.

013008 Update: Just got an email (I signed up for email update online) and it said the approval letter was sent. Keep up the hope. The whole process took about 5 and a half months... Sent in application the 10th of August, they got it the 16th got approval on the 30th of Januray. This was for the Vermont center.

I recently applied for an extension of my B2. I applied in late Oct and received a reply dated 4 Dec, so I guess it's not entirely true that processing takes 6 months, just that it can take UP to 6 months.
