  • Visa Extension USCIS response!

    Hello All,

My father passed away two weeks ago here in US while visiting me. He and my mother were on B1 visitor's visa. It was very hard for me to let my Mom go after our family had suffered such a tragic loss. I have thus filed for extension of her Visas based on the fact that emotionally she is not in a condition to start a life all by herself back home. She needs to spend some time with her immediate family, befor she could go back. I also requested to expedite the case.

Now I have recieved a letter form USCIS saying that they have recieved my request to expedite due to "medical reasons" and they need some documents such as a letter from doctor supporting it.

Death of spouse naturally is a emotional set back, why would they ask for a doctor to confirm it.
1> Isn't death of husband after being married for 28 years a reason humanitarian enough????
2> Would you know if a doctor could look into it and really determine if she is in strong enough to go back or needs to spent some time with her family here in USA for some more time???
3> Diagnosis form any doctor would do or whether she needs to see some doctor practicing some specific branch of medicine??

    Help is needed urgently!

I would say take her to a counselor and get a letter from a professional counselor that will help your purpose.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

There are plenty of grief counselors in the US associated with local churches. I am not sure of your religious inclination but you could find outside as well.

The facility that made the final arrangements will also have referrals to appropriate individuals.
