  • Question about Extending Visa

My mom is here with me on B2 Tourist Visa and her I94 expire date is Jan 2, 2009. I al ready file the extension application for her to stay another 6 months. I already got the receipt back from Department of Homeland Security on Nov 14, 2008.

For some reason I wen tto check her status on this web site https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/caseStatusSearch.do by typing in EAC0903457612

    and I got this message:

Your case can not be found at this time in Case Status Online. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, you can either call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283, or you can send an e-mail to [email protected].

So really how long does it take to know the status?

Also, if time comes by Jan 2, 2009 and we have not known the status "Approved or Denied", should my mom leave before Jan 2, 2009 or can she stay after that date even though the status of application is unknown?

I would advise that your mom returns before the I-94 expires even if you do not hear from USCIS on the status. A visitor's visa is to visit for short term not staying here for extended period of time.
