Visitor Visa Extension

My parents are stamped for 3 months visa while they entered US. They have 10 year multiple entry visa which expires on 2016. This is their 3rd time in US. Last time they visited on aug 2008 till feb 2009. They came back again this month. This time they got stamped for just 3 months and they need to return on Oct.

I would like to extend their visa at least for a month for personal reasons. Please someone let me know the procedure for applying for extension and what reason should I mention for visa extension and when do I need to apply for the extension.

It is not a good thing to apply for an extension. They returned to USA only after staying for 5 months in thier home country. That is the reason, they got a restricted stay of 3 months.
