I only have a US visitor visa and was approved for 6 months. I applied for an extension of stay a month before the expiration. 6 months have passed already from the time I applied and still there is no reply. What does that mean?
And how many times can I apply for an extension of stay?

As long as you filed for extension before expiration, you are fine.

You can stay in US on visitor visa maxmimum 1 year. (6+6 months)
