extending stay beyound I94 date

Hi,

My mom is here on a multiple entry visitor visa and I want to extend her stay beyond the date printed on her I94. I read about 'extending visitor visa' posts on this forum and was not sure if I539 is what I need to fill in.
Can someone please confirm? Is extending visitor visa same as getting another I94?
