Visitor Visa extension

My in-laws are visiting us. They have a 10 year, multiple entry visa. They came here on 12/24/03. They have a return ticket on 6/24/04.
1) We want to extend their visa by another 4-6 months.
What kind of reason can we provide. Any suggestions are welcomed.
2) Also, do we need to send them original I-94?
3) If the visa don't come back before they leave, will they have any problems. What kind of documentation will help them.
