Visitor Visa Extension for my parents

Does any body help me with my question?
My parents came to the U.S for visiting us, they have granted 6 months at the POE. I would like to extend their stay for 5 more months. Initially I sponsored visitor visa for my parents. Currently I need to send recent pay stubs,bank statements, I-134 and Bank account verification letter etc., for financial support to file the extension along with I-539. I am not working for the past one year, since I can't send all the documents mentioned above.
In this case,can my husband send all the above documents to USCIS for extending their visa? Will the consulate verify the initial sponsor information while applying extension? Will it create any problem? My parents authorized stay expires on March 8th 2010. I should apply for their extension in this week. Any reply would be really appreciated.
